Dr who (ten)
[info]zurcherart! [info]zurcherart!

- Russell still hasn't mastered subtlety has he... "labour camps"?? And did Donna get a lobotomy or something? "What's happening again, grandad? What's wrong with labour camps?" Er....What's wrong with the schools in the UK more like!

- Oh. Grandad rules!

- Loved the plastic beatle on Donna's back. Well, not the whole "why are you looking behind me"-thing, just the really bad fake plastic beatle. Classic!

- Rose... WTF? WTF? Why did she talk like Liza Minelli? Botox gone wrong? She got a new set of dentures in her alternate dimension and wasn't used to them yet? Ar-ti-cu-la-tion please... not all of us are from London you know.

- Now Donna, I do like you, but Why! Do! You! Shout! Every! Word! When! You're! Frightened! Or! Angry! Or! Any! Other! Emotion!

Overall, I did like the episode. I thought it was quite funny. Leeds! Ha!

So next week, in the battle of Catherine Tate versus John Barrowman, who will win the prize for Best Overacting Performance?

Um on the shouting front, I think you're meant to realise just how being with the Doctor changed her and how dislikeable she might be if she hadn't met him.

Well, they managed that :-)

No, but it's a gripe I have from the whole season. Sometimes she's good, but sometimes her acting is so forced and over the top and she generally resorts to shouting her words seperately. She then reminds me of one of her own characters and I keep thinking she'll go "am I bovvered?".
And when she acts prissy, like with her mum, I'm reminded of Jennifer Saunders in "French and Saunders" when she does a "posh type". :-)
But overall I do like Catherine Tate, I really do. She's a great companion.

At last! :-)

Yeah. No one can accuse Russell of subtlety. I did get caught up in his bleak view of the (alternate) future. And while I think it would probably be something more mundane then a flying replica of the Titanic what if something wiped out all of London without warning (or Washington DC and New York)? I find it all somewhat believable, if not subtle.

I didn't catch that about Donna's stupid labour camp question. But you're right. he's usually the sensitive one (shouting but sensitive) who make good intuitive moral connections like on the planet of the Ood and with the poor dumb brunette secretary in the library.

Doctor 10 (and Doctor 9 to a lesser extent) and Jack and Donna and Rose (to a lesser extent) and Jackie and ... I guess most of the rest have all had the shouting problem. Maybe it's part of the standard contract at BBC Wales.

I'm glad you mentioned Rose's voice. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but I was like "this is odd, or did she always talk like that, and I forgot?"

I thought the episode was funny and suspenseful. The suspense mostly because I really like Donna and I want to see her continue on the show ... (no spoilers please I don't read anything ahead) ... and I have this feeling that they are in the process of writing her out. So stayed behind the sofa out of fear that someone was going to kill Donna in an unsubtle way.

so +'s and -'s:

+ Granddad better than ever
- Mom, why does every new generation companion have to have a disfunctional family?
+ Mom, she showed a gentler side and I felt for her
+ They did wonders with candles in that communist Moscow style apartment
+,- I guess we know why Donna sat the last one out by the pool. She's needed to rest up for her solo episode.
+ Nice to hear *all* the spin off characters mentioned ... and fiery alternate death for Gwen who lately just gets on my nerves. (But where's K-9?)
- The mentions seemed pretty forced, + fiery death for poor Ianto (I guess Toshi and Owen already died the same way in the alternate time line)
+ I thought all that "what's on my back?" stuff was really spooky
- The coming of the great darkness, storm, whatever ... isn't this the way they ALWAYS tease the season finale?
+ Another alien planet! (Even though it looks like a stylized Hong Kong)
+ Old Skool rubber aliens!! (like you said)
+ The new UNIT Brigadier with the African name. HOT. (Was that perhaps also your gay agenda ... could be ... she looked like she wanted to snog Rose ... or did she just remind me of Mrs. Meade's jailbreak squeeze from Ugly Betty)
+ The scary ending with the red tardis and the cloister bells (the first time we heard the cloister bells it signalled Tom Baker's regeneration ... I suppose we're not getting a new Doctor yet though). But it was supenseful.
- The Bad Wolf lettering change even on the Tardis ... I couldn't really suspend my belief that far. And how could live Donna remember what Rose and told alternate dead Donna? ... AND WHY did Rose need to tell her "Bad Wolf" if she or something could just write it on everything anyway?
+ I'm thinking though that it's possible that the Bad Wolf means that the Rose we have been seeing is the Rose from the past when she had the Time Vortex in her. Either the funny talking is Billy trying to act more jaded ... OR it's her trying to act like she's containing the Time vortex. It's a + cause that means current Rose is still trapped in her alternate Universe ... cause I'm still old skool and think that companions should not keep coming 'round (unless they work for UNIT or an agency affiliated with UNIT like Torchwood or have the name Sarah Jane.)

Question:
When did the doctor meet Grandad? I remember they met without Donna in some episode. But which one?

Um, I know I'm not Piglet, but if I can jump in here, Ten met Grandad in Voyage of the Damned, during that brief trip to the surface with Astrid at the beginning. He was the only newspaper vendor who'd stayed in London :)

(Also, I really love your theory about Rose, but Jackie and Mickey are in the two parter too, so...)

It can't be Ricky? Oh no, he died didn't he. And then Mickey stayed with his boyfriend...

Alternate universes fry my brain!

LOL. We were all "oh my god, they even killed the teens who hang out with Sarah Jane! How cruel"

And yeah, "coming out of the darkness", when will it ever come out of the light?
I never got why Rose painted Bad Wolf everywhere back in Season 1. It seemed like a pretty stupid way to warn her future self of danger... and it was because she never even noticed it.
Couldn't she have put "Daleks on Satellite 5! Don't go there unprepared" on a little note in the TARDIS for the Doctor to find. (ok ok, timelines, danger, whatever)

Loved the Butch UNIT officer, yes :-) *g*
Though I'm thinking some more gay agenda will be next week when Torchwood joins the rest of them. I just hope Capt Jack doesn't hit on the teenagers ;-) "Well hello there... how old might you two be and what' s the age of consent again?"

The ending was pretty impressive even though the Bad Wolf was very much over the top. How did Rose manage that? And why didn't she just pop in and say what she had to say to the Doctor. It would have taken less time than writing all that (ok ok, timelines... huge aliens... change the course of history blablabla)

OOPS OOPS... no next week spoilers. Between you and [info]littlemoose ... geez :-) It was cruel to kill all the teens, eh? Come to think of it, it was also a bit random when the newscaster said something along the lines of "Hospital vanishes. 1,000's dead. Lone survivor reports they were on the moon. Wait. Wait. This just in. Minor league journalist Sarah Jane Smith (we happen to have a current photo on file) also perished with these four kids that no-one heard of before but there names ARE ..." And if that's random, it must have only been the shock of the Atmos that kept Donna from SHOUTING, "WHO ARE GWEN AND IANTO? DO I KNOW THEM? AM I BOVVERED? WHY WON'T YOU TELL ME YOUR NAME BUT YOU JUST BLURT OUT SOME GUY NAMED CAPTAIN JACK TIE ME UP IN A HARNESS SOMETHING OR OTHER HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE SONTARAN HOME WORLD. HEY, YOU. WHAT IS A SONTARAN HOMEWORLD?"

Spoilers? It was the trailer immediately after the episode sweetie. I didn't know that counted, sorry!

For *normal* people it wouldn't count. You haven't noticed yet I'm not normal.

I close my eyes and shove my fingers in my ears and sing lalalalalala during the trailers ... 'cause I like to be surprised.

You called me sweety, so everything is alright now.

*editted ... because I thought I was responding to the [info]littlemoose for a moment there"

EEEK sorry! I thought that was 'extremely common knowledge' rather than spoilers - I hadn't realised anyone had managed to remain that unspoiled! You've got a major treat coming then, (which I've managed not to mention!) so I hope you enjoy it, and sorry again...

The end has come, but it has been prepared for ...
OH. MY. GOD.

I didn't see any of that coming!

Which was the treat you managed not to mention?

BBC spoiled the villains. Went on line today to check the schedule and on the bbc.co.uk homepage ... Daleks for days. But not they villains' "leader".

PS L.O.V.E. Love the userpic.

And did Donna get a lobomotomy or something?

Well, this was Donna as she was when we first met her, before the Doctor opened her eyes to her own intellect, when she was still taking refuge in being shallow, even though she was bright... I think, anyway...

Bernard Cribbins broke my heart in that scene. He's such a legend :D

Barrowman will snag the prize. And he'll do it in style, I'm sure ;)
