I went to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix yesterday.

In case everyone's interested: here are my impressions
The Girlfriend kept making angry noises throughout the film: "this is wrong," that's not right!", "where's that scene?!" "Hermione doesn't say that". I've never re-read that god-awful excuse of a CAPSLOCKED book, so I wasn't bothered by that.

What sucked?
- The fact that the kids keep wearing normal clothes instead of robes... it's so un-canon, it's criminal. And all the wizards know how to dress as muggles... But then, this isn't new is it.
- The ending. My god! The ending is so so so so over the top, sentimental, bad... harry v voldemort. I was cringing in my seat.
- They gloss over most of the occlumency.
- Kreacher has nothing to do with anything apparently.  He gets a tiny cameo. No mention of dobby either, though The Girlfriend tells me he's quite prominent in the book. I don't remember.
- Grawp's inclusion is unnecessary (but then that goes for the book)
- Kingsley is waaaaay too old!! I love Kingsley/Severus, but now... oh god no!
- They ruin the reason why Severus doesn't want to continue occlumency. Instead of Harry being a right arsehole and diving into his pensieve, harry manages to "penetrate" his mind after Snape keeps bad-mouthing James Potter. As if! The scene with teenage snape is also very very tiny, but I like it. It's teenage snape afterall. Should have been more of it.
- Percy runs around after Fudge, but no one even mentions it's him.
- The twins disrupt the OWLs and fly off. This is not explained properly. And -as someone wrote in their LJ- as if Hermione wouldn't kill them for it!
- Actually The Girlfriend just tells me the book is much better. But then she doesn't agree the book should be burned. So what does she know ;-).

What's good?
- Sirius is a total prat. But you can see where he comes from.
- They actually made his death a little better. In that he doesn't just fall through that idiotic veil, he gets AK'ed first
- I like Bellatrix. She's as mad as she should be.
- Luna. Luna is fantastically well cast. And Neville steals my heart every single time.
- Severus is godlike!!! Alan Rickman is fantastic!! There's not enough of him, as there never is, but the snippets with him in it... my god!
- The occlumency when Snape gets into Harry's mind is hilarious.
- Umbridge is good, she's funny.
- There's Remus/Sirius slash. Remus is hardly in the film, but when he is... he's standing bloody close to Sirius.
- The Dursleys. I love the Dursleys!

Hmz... I notice I 've written a lot of bad stuff, but my overall impression was positive. I'd quite like to see it again actually.

Lot of the negative reasons you list stem from differences between book/film. I read the book when it came out (and own it) but never reread it because even the thought of capslock!Harry was too exhausting.

I'm not too bothered about book fidelity anyway and am just looking forward to seeing the bloody thing.

I dislike the book immensely, but the things I list in the "dislikes" were the few things I *did* like that the film messed up :-)
Typical!

My immediate comment was, "that was the biggest load of shit I've ever seen."

Loved the things you did, but overall, as with the book, I hated it. The casting is excellent (except for Emma Watson who really does need to get over herself), but they are just not used properly. Whilst I understand the need to cut things from the book, why the hell do they insist on adding in crap that adds nothing to the story?

Alan was sexy though.

If there ever was a positive note to end things on "Alan was sexy though" is definitely it :-)

My reply
I can see your view on the movie... My overall impression was positive as well... I found the movie entertaining and far better than the PoA-adpatation

Look, see how I said this in a NICE way? :p
