My thoughts on the ranting

Helsinki 2007
Dear god, people, it’s JUST a song contest. And I for one, love Molitva, and I’m not from the Balkan. So do many others. Now it’s hard to look for the west in the scores, but last year Lordi won and She Who Must Not Be Named from Sweden came fifth. The year before that Greece won and Malta was second.

Yes, the scores are skewed in semis and in the middle of the scoreboard (I noticed no-one booing when Finland or Sweden got points from their neighbours though), songs from the Balkan or the Baltic, and Turkey end up higher than they should. But so. Bloody. what? Us Belgians are used to losing, and I for one have learned not to care about what happens in the sub-top or the middle. It’s only the winner that counts in the end. I realise it’s frustrating, I really do, but what are you going to do about it?
- Eliminate neighbour voting somehow? Fine by me, but what about emigrant votes then?
- Juries? Why should someone tell me who I should like and give my 12 points to? My god! I may not have studied music, but I have the right to like –and vote for- what I like. And unfortunately for the professionals I like trashy camp and bombastic balkan ballads. And my vote should have as much merit as that of others.

She Who Must Not Be Named from Sweden

She is one of the most terrifying persons I know. I mourned when we made it from the semi last year.

Everyone seems to have forgotten that when juries did the voting, they still gave points to their neighbours!

Absolutely! And me too!

Carola has possibly raised from the dead. She'd have fitted right in with DJ Bobo this year...

Thanks for the support! Crap songs count too!!

One thing I found noticeable about the neighbour/emigrant vote this year was that it actually evened things out a bit. Serbia and Ukraine did get some neighbour votes but a lot of the time they were in the lower voting, and that was enough to keep them at the top. The actual songs/performances were good enough to still get in the top 10 even with more people voting for the ones they were more familiar with, and the cumulative vote was enough for them to win (and come second). Which, yay.

The only voting I found completely mystifying was Turkey. Seriously, that sucked. We figured there had to be a large emigrant vote with possible SIM cloning. Because really? That sucked.

I completely agree with you on Turkey. Not even the outfits made it watchable!

And Armenia. Why oh why oh why.

And yeah, it's just a song contest and booing is really not polite. Go home and bitch, by all means, but just clap politely with no jumping up and down if you're that unhappy with it.
( Yeeeees? )
